We just finished another Boomer Dance party at the Allegro Ballroom in Richmond, CA. The Allegro Ballroom is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to dancing and dance instruction. They have several large rooms, the largest of which is used for both instruction and dance events that feature everything from Salsa, Bachata, Tango, Samba, and Cumbia to other ballroom and exhibition styles that include (but are not limited to) West-Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, Jive, Nightclub Two-Step, Foxtrot, and two flavors of waltz.
Nonetheless, the power of "The Twist" along with the Swim, the Pony, the Jerk, the Monkey, and yes, the Mashed Potato had the crowd up on their feet along with a generous helping of the best of the best slow songs of the 50s and 60s. This was a crowd that embraced "The Stranger on the Shore, Ooh Baby Baby, Forever, Smoke gets in Your Eyes, and the most beautiful song ever recorded (IMHO) Moon River," Henry Mancini's treasure in 3/4 time. What an afternoon! The kindest people you ever met!
